Publisher's Note: An E-Partnership for You!
September 04, 2008
By Joyceann Cooney-Garippa and David Holcombe

If you're consistently hearing the term, "cost leadership," in your organization, or just functioning in a costcutting organization, don't count yourself among the lonely. With war still looming, gas prices soaring, airfares expected to rise, and, by all reports, measurably one of the worst economies in decades…and all this in an election year…organizations large and small are keeping a watchful eye on every cost center.

You may be wondering why we would begin a "welcome" letter to the first-ever e-training-focused supplement with seemingly bad news. Well, the old adage, "There's always some good in bad," rings true for the e-learning industry. Talk of cost leadership means an uptick in the way learning is delivered…and e-learning vendors and programs are well positioned to reap the reward.

Indeed, when we crafted the partnership between Training magazine and The eLearning Guild, we had the following thoughts in mind:

• Pairing the powers of Training magazine's senior \ management circulation, attendee base, and knowledge of cost leadership with The eLearning Guild's superior research, membership, online publications, and focused events.

• Keeping your "cost leadership" in mind as we placed two well-known brands under one roof at DevLearn 2008 Conference & Expo, so you get the best of both events with just one registration fee.

• Focusing only on innovative online learning strategies that will lead us to the future of training and performance improvement…cost leadership considered or not. The articles contained in this supplement represent a joint editorial effort on behalf of Training magazine and The eLearning Guild, and all are written by recognized industry thought leaders. They will provide you with valuable insights and ideas, and they represent a sampling of the type of highly focused program content you will find at DevLearn 2008, being held November 11-14 in San Jose, CA. Training’s Technology in Action (TIA) conference-withina- conference, hosted by e-learning guru Bryan Chapman, is included in your DevLearn 2008 registration.

Additionally, Training's Technology in Action Award winners will be announced during a special reception Tuesday evening, November 11, before the conference kicks off. The combination of the TIA and DevLearn 2008 programs ensures that this will be the most cost-effective and valuable learning experience you can engage in this fall.

So make your plans today to come to San Jose this November for a complete immersion in all things e learning…and, since this e-training supplement also will be bonus distributed at DevLearn 2008, to pick up as many copies as you need to share with your workforce, peers, and CEO.

On behalf of Training magazine and The eLearning Guild, we wish you happy reading, newfound successes, an incredible conference experience, and “effective” cost leadership measures. We look forward to seeing you at DevLearn 2008 and TIA.

David Holcombe is president for eLearningGuild. Joyceann Cooney-Garippa is group publisher & show director of Training magazine & Training magazine Events.
